(IBEXNews) – A 14-month-old Bronx girl taken from her mom’s apartment by her father has been brought home safe and sound — and the NYPD says they are no longer looking to arrest the father.
The girl’s mother, Aleeyah Montanez, called police Monday morning to say a man called her, asking her to come down to the street outside her Belmont apartment because he had her daughter, Kaylee Williams. When the mother went downstairs, the stranger handed Kaylee off and ran away, police said.
That man, along with Kaylee’s father, Kenneth Williams, 33, were being sought by police early Monday.
But after discussing the case with the Bronx district attorney’s office, the NYPD said no crime had been committed because there is no formal custody arrangement in place.
Kaylee, who suffers from seizures, was unharmed and is in good health, police said. The Administration for Children’s Services is investigating the incident.
The father took off with Kaylee on Saturday morning.
