(IBEXNews) - An 8-year-old boy was killed and six other people were injured when fire tore through a home in Queens early Sunday

The flames broke out at about 2:30 a.m. on the second floor of the home on 160th Street in Springfield Gardens.

The house was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived.

People were trapped and neighbors say two residents jumped from a window.

An FDNY battalion chief says there were a total of 10 people in the home, including four children, and said that the child who died was found in his bed.

The boy has been identified as Tighani Jones.

"It's disturbing and a very hard scene, but we tried our best, just couldn't get to them, too much fire," said FDNY Chief Patrick Ginty.

Six people were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.

Investigators are trying to determine how the fire started. The NYPD says there do not appear to be any signs of criminality.
