Florida High School Teen Fatally Shot Over Yeezy Sneakers
(IBEXNews) - Miami police on Sunday announced the arrest of two men who they say murdered 18-year-old Andrea Camps Lacayo in a bid to steal three pairs of Adidas Yeezy sneakers. Police say that both suspects have confessed to the killing.
Adrian Cosby and George Walton, both 19, face charges of second-degree murder, attempted murder and attempted armed robbery. Police say that Camps accompanied her boyfriend, Sergio Berben to a meet-up arranged via social media on April 7, where Berben was going to sell the sneakers for $935.
According to Walton’s arrest report, he told police that “his only intention for meeting with Mr Berben was to steal the sneakers.” Authorities say that Walton approached the couple and asked to try on the shoes and, once he did, Cosby stepped up and fired his gun, hitting Berben in the arm and Camps in the torso. Camps eventually died of her wound at the hospital.
Camps, a senior at Terra Environmental Research Institute, was captain of the school dance team and planned to graduate in just a few weeks.
“Here’s a remarkable young lady described as ‘Miss Dimples,’ had a smile that brought light to the room, was intellectually superior taking AP classes with the dreams of becoming a nurse at FIU,” said Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, who visited her family on Thursday. “This is unacceptable. I’ve done this one time too many.”
