(IBEXNews) – A Los Angeles police officer was charged Thursday with inappropriately groping a dead woman’s breast in a caught-on-camera crime, prosecutors said.

David Rojas, 27, was charged with one felony count of having sexual contact with human remains without authority, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said.

Prosecutors said the disturbing incident took place Oct. 20, after Rojas and his partner responded to a call where a woman had died.

While he was alone in the room with the corpse, the defendant allegedly fondled the dead woman’s chest, authorities said.

If convicted as charged, Rojas faces a possible maximum sentence of three years in state prison.

Rojas reportedly tried to turn his body camera off before violating the dead woman, but a buffer feature captured the alleged act of necrophilia.

The footage was found during a random check of body-cam video.
